houndstooth

hat, earrings - primark, cropped turtleneck - ebay, skirt, backpack - charity shop, shoes - vagabond via urban outfitters, oscar the kitten - he was found under an oven (true story) (don't ask i don't know)

Hello! I've been a bit MIA on the blog front recently (I just checked and it's been nearly a month since I last posted!) What with new job, finding out I may have to move house, blah blah etc etc but at least now it's light when I get home from work I should be able to take more photos!

I wore this outfit yesterday to do some shopping in Milton Keynes, go for some drinks and watch the Alice in Wonderland ballet. I have never seen a ballet before and I don't think I will watch one again. Not that it was terrible or anything, just not my kind of thing. I don't think I would have understood the story if I didn't already know it. Trippy.

Oscar is well on trend at the moment with his monochrome fur. He was trying to stick his head in all my photos so I got him involved.

floral trousers

trousers, necklace, earrings - primark, top - jumble sale, boots - h&m, coat - vintage

I spotted these trousers on Meg's blog a few weeks ago and headed straight to Primark to seek them out for myself. I've been living in trousers recently so these were a happy addition to my wardrobe. They were my first high street clothing buy after finishing my year of thrifting way back in September, so it pretty much turned into a year and a half in the end. Not bad going for something that was originally a month long challenge!

I wore this outfit for a night out but I'm hoping I'll be able to style these trousers for day to day office wear too. I got a new job which I start after Easter - my style won't have to change much day to day but it's an academic position which means I will have to do some teaching so smart clothing will be essential at some point. What do you think - are patterned trousers smart?

lipstick on your collar

PhotobucketPhotobucket

denim jacket, necklace - car boot sales, top - primark, trousers - charity shop, creepers - underground, ear cuff - matalan

This seems like quite a plain outfit for me - the only pattern in the entire thing is on my shoes! However it does show off some of my most recent purchases. The denim jacket I bought at a car boot sale a couple of weeks ago for £1, intending to DIY it and sell it on. However, it's now had the fate of joining my ever growing denim jacket collection (current number: 5) as I've been looking for the perfect cropped jacket for a while now. I didn't realise when I bought it, but it's actually a little boys jacket - age 7-8! The necklace I got from a car boot this weekend for £1 too. I love the shape of it and I think it'll look really good under collars.

I bought the trousers at the weekend. They were brand new with tags and only cost £3. I've been on the lookout for more trousers since I found my bargainous 50p ones so I'll be adding these to my collection! The ear cuff is also new - Matalan had a load of jewellery selling off for 50p!

outfit

I've switched Twitter accounts - please follow me here! And now onto the post...

shirt - charity shop/ diy, bird patches - ebay, jacket - primark, riding pants - american apparel, socks - primark, creepers - pj shoes, ring - dixi (present), earring - diy

This outfit includes two of my recent DIYs. I ordered the bird patches off eBay around a month ago when I was suddenly struck with inspiration one afternoon at work, but they'd been sitting in a drawer since they'd arrived because I couldn't face the effort of sewing them on. However, rather unusually in my experience, the iron actually fully stuck the patch onto my shirt so no sewing required! I also managed to melt a bit of my carpet in the process (don't tell the landlord). I'm really pleased with the outcome and may have to tattoo some of my other clothes too! The other DIY is my cross earring. I'd had a necklace for ages but never worn it, so the other day I made this, plus two similar earrings out of it.

I thought the bird claw ring was quite fitting with this outfit! I couldn't get a good photos of it but I've put the link above. There was also a bird showing when my jacket was covering up the shirt, don't you worry:

Now that one I did have to sew on!

I've made two more shoes purchases this week, oops, this pair of fake Creepers being one of them. I don't usually like buying fakes but I had £20 birthday money left and these were £19 so I couldn't really leave them behind, could I?! The other pair I bought were some navy Doc Marten shoes, which I got with an Amazon voucher that I got for my birthday. Spending money doesn't count if it's birthday money.

Have a good weekend!
